Taking Photos of your Art + Lighting

I’m in no way a professional when it comes to photography, however I do like when I’m able to take good pictures of my artwork.

It’s no surprise that good lighting is key (we’ll get to that in a moment) but that’s not all! If you’re using certain types of paper to draw on, you may find some are more transparent than others and that can affect how the end result looks on your camera.

Take a look at the example below. You’ll see I opted to use a bleed proof marker paper. As you can see, the colours aren’t as vibrant looking as they are with a white background. Luckily, all I had to do was place a white paper or cardstock behind it, before taking a photo.

Now for the lighting!

For the longest while, I used a ring light, which was a hassle to set up and put away as I lack the space to keep it out all the time.

Don’t get me wrong, it was a good ring light! However, after using it for so long, one of the parts became loose and it sort of broke, so it was unable to hold the actual ring light securely on the tripod. It’s still usable but as I said, too much of a hassle to continue using unless I’m really desperate.

Therefore, I turned to natural lighting when taking photos or recording videos. Luckily I have an area in front of my windows where I can set up my desk to work on my art.

If like me, you’re more active in the evenings, there are still some great inexpensive lights out there that aren’t as fiddly as mine!

Overall, I would recommend the Neewer Ring Light if you have the space. Obviously I don’t, so next time I may just invest in a smaller light that I can just clip onto my desk. 🙂

Shop now open!

Firstly, I have to apologise for the lack of posts. I’ve been super busy and I know I shouldn’t really use it as an excuse but it’s the truth!

I’m happy to announce that my little shop is now open! I’ll be slowly rolling out more art prints, stickers and bookmarks! Here is a little teaser of the stickers I just prepared!

If you guys have any suggestions or would like to see another artwork as a print, sticker or bookmark, let me know!

I’ll also be updating my art on here soon~ It’s well overdue for one as it is! fiuh

Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencils!

So… I’m a little behind on colouring my art, traditionally anyway. That’s why I invested in these special pencils!

As the title states, these are the Faber-Castell Polychromos coloured Pencils. I was rather excited when I first received them, as the package itself seemed quite big!

I definitely wasn’t disappointed with the tin it came in, it’s very sturdy and holds each little baby pencil nicely. Below are pictures of the tin and pencils.

As you can see, there are so many colours! 120 to be exact. The first time I used them, I was quite surprised as the colours were so vibrant! Below you’ll find my art that I coloured, using these pencils.

I’m so pleased with how it turned out! Overall, I would definitely recommend these pencils! I shall update my art section with more recent stuff soon and hopefully more coloured pieces like this~

Chibi Sailor Moon Princesses!

If you’re like me and you have trouble drawing a group of characters on paper, then it may be easier to draw them separately and use Photoshop (or any other similar program) to edit them together.

Sometimes i don’t need to do them separately but i really wanted to, especially with the picture i was trying to redraw, so i could get the details just right.

I finally finished inking the last one! Original manga image & teaser pic below~

Hopefully soon, i’ll get around to editing and colouring them.
